Lychee Seed Germination | Growing Lychee Plant From Seed

ow to successfully grow a Lychee Fruit plant from a seed.
First requirement is to keep the seed soaked in plain water for atleast 6 to 10 hours.
Then, Here, we are again using the same wet paper towel method for germinating seeds.
The lychee seed is little big and takes time for sprouting – perhaps 10 to 14 days.
So, put the soaked seed in the toilet tissue paper and fold it.
Then, nicely wet the tissue paper with water or if you have some magnesium sulphate salt, also called Epsom salt, put a teaspoon in 500 ml of water and use it to wet the toilet paper.

Take a polythene bag, preferably a zip-lock bag and put the wet folded thing into it and seal it.

Then, keep this bag in a warm dark area of your room. I prefer to keep under my covered counter wash basin or kitchen basin.

Check after 8 days. If there is no sprouting, then recheck every 3 – 4 days. Check Video below for Results.

In this case, I could see the root developing on the 12th day. Look at the little sprout coming from the seed top.
I then kept it back for 3 more days in the same polythene cover. This time I added some perlite medium to the bag, to retain moisture.

Now on 15th day, you can see the nicely developed root. Now, you can continue this in the same bag for some more growth, or, plant the seed directly in a small pot.
I prefer to use a small temporary pot with coco-peat in it.
Sow the seed with root downwards or sidewards and pour some water.
Wait for few days.

Now, on the 20th Day, Wow!, I see the result of this. There is a small Lychee plant coming out and growing.
